On the way to vacation where one aspires to
freedom and new discoveries in the south, the Museum in Marnay must not
be missed. In the proliferation of Loire Valley chateaux and other "gingerbread
constructions" made of limestone, this achievement near Azay-le-Rideau left us
wanting more...there wasn't enough time to see everything.
It is certainly provocative since it is both intriguing and attractive
but it is true that in Marnay you mustn't be in a rush!
Don't misunderstand: Marnay is not an automobile museum which hides
its name behind a few prestigious models (Morgan 1950, George Irat 1939,
Buick 1959 of a US general), authentic posters or enamel advertisements!
[...] "The genius of Maurice Dufresne is to have grabbed hold of a world
which was changing and to honor it by preserving some traces."

All that Moved
The man had good ideas but so many that his "Enormous Museum" houses anything
that was mobile in the last two centuries. A lifetime would not be sufficient
to restore it all. Without redoing an inventory of Prévert, we
can salute the Blériot's plane (1909), the André Citroën tractor (1919), the Russian
sleigh...before recognizing the baby carriage of Prince Charles, the guillotine from the French Revolution and the authentic glider from the film "La
Grande Vadrouille": unbelievable !
For once we words are left by the wayside since, of course, these
"finds" have a history but only their owner could relate it to us.
It is the frustrating part about this museum, but it is the only thing
that is. The contents and the facilities could serve as models for other
more expensive projects. |
